Regional characteristics
The region has a rich culture and artistic scene with outstanding cultural relics, such as Songgwangsa Temple, Seonamsa Temple, the head temple of the Taego order, and Nakan-eup Fortress. A repository of ecological resources is located there, including Suncheonman Bay, which was the first in Korea to be signed up to the Ramsar Convention. International Garden Exposition Suncheon Bay Korea 2013 was held here.
