Pyeongchang-gun borders Gangneung-si and Jeongseon-gun to the east, Hoengseong-gun to the west, Hongcheon-gun to the north, and Yeongwol-gun to the south. In addition, the 1999 Gangwon Winter Asian Games, the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics, the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics were held.
