Heogabawi Rock

Heogabawi Rock, located at 69-3 Heojun-gil, Gangseo-gu (in front of Yeongdeungpo Technical High School, 26-28 Gayang-dong), is a naturally formed rock cave. It is a veritable treasure trove for anthropological researchers as it is estimated to have been inhabited by human beings in the Stone Age, who harvested shellfish and fish from the Hangang River. Approximately 6m in width, 2m in height and 5m in length, this cave can comfortably accommodate over 10 persons. This cave is known as the birthplace of the Yangcheon Heo Family with a tale that says Heo Seon-moon, the family's progenitor, was actually born in this cave. Heogabawi Rock can be seen in Gyeomjae's painting "Soyojeong", where a boat can be seen floating on the river adjacent to Heogabawi Rock with two fishermen in traditional hats casting a line as they sit peacefully on the boat.
